100 sapling trees have been planted behind Braywick Leisure Centre creating a new woodland area at Braywick Park. The leisure centre is currently under construction and due for completion by mid-2020. The aim of planting the trees behind the site is to offset the carbon emissions generated by the project.

The trees were planted during a ceremony attended by local volunteers, Cllr Samantha Rayner head of culture and communities for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Andy Wates director of Wates Construction and Alec Jackman business unit director at Wates construction.

All of these new trees will support the formation of a new woodland wildlife habitat and all the trees planted are native British species such as Silver Birch, Grey Willow, Whitebeam, Hazel and Hawthorn.

Rayner stated: “Ensuring our developments are as environmentally friendly as possible is one of our top priorities.

“The planting of these trees will offset the carbon emissions created by the construction of the new Braywick Leisure Centre while also creating a new green space for residents and wildlife to enjoy.”

Additionally, to the new woodland, the construction work on the leisure centre is making sound progress as the foundation floor for the new 10 lane pool is now in place.

Work on the Braywick leisure centre commenced last October and will see a brand new leisure facility to replace the 40-year-old Magnet Leisure centre. The new Braywick centre boasts a 10-lane swimming pool, larger training and splash pools, a larger sports hall, a 200-station gym and four squash courts. The centre will have improved disability access, double the number of car parking spaces and use 70% less energy than the existing Magnet Leisure Centre. This framework has been designed to deliver significant levels of local economic engagement, ongoing apprenticeship schemes as well as extensive community initiatives.

All of this investment is pointing to the future, as the council and developers alike know that Maidenhead is the new place to be. As London spills out into it’s surrounding areas, Maidenhead’s new link to the capital through Crossrail makes it one of the best if not the best option for businesses and residents looking for a cheaper, more sustainable location – still in touching distance of the capital.

Lantern will be Maidenhead’s newest office building, providing a floor area of 19,000 sq ft. The four-storey building is to be located on the corner of Marlow Road and Sun Lane, just three minuets walk from the town centre. To find out more information contact us here.
